The Belagavi City Corporation is set to organise two more study tours for its corporators after the proposal received approval at the Health Standing Committee meeting held on July 18.
Under the plan, one delegation will visit Amritsar under the Swachh Bharat Mission, while another will travel to Sikkim using the Corporation’s own funds. The schedule and duration of both tours are yet to be finalised.
The Amritsar visit will focus on sanitation management, solid waste collection and processing, public toilets, and city-wide cleanliness initiatives. The Sikkim tour will study environmental conservation, plastic-free initiatives, sustainable tourism, and urban waste management practices.
These will be the fourth and fifth study tours undertaken by corporators during the tenure of the current council. Over the past two years, corporators have already visited Chandigarh, Indore, and Jaipur to study urban development and civic management models. The Indore visit focused on door-to-door waste collection, waste segregation, and processing systems, while the Jaipur tour examined heritage conservation, tourism management, and municipal administration.
Although some ideas from these visits—particularly in solid waste management and public cleanliness campaigns—were introduced in Belagavi, many initiatives lost momentum after the initial phase, with several remaining confined to discussions.
With two more study tours now on the agenda, attention will once again be on whether the learnings from Amritsar and Sikkim translate into tangible improvements in sanitation, environmental management, and civic services in Belagavi.
