The Tilakwadi and Khadebazar police have registered cases against office-bearers and members of four Ganesh mandals for allegedly failing to complete their idol immersion within the stipulated time during this yearโ€™s Ganeshotsav.

The action comes after the Ganesh immersion procession in Belagavi stretched for nearly 42 hours, with the final idols being taken for immersion much later than the scheduled timeline.

At Khadebazar police station, cases have been registered against office-bearers and members of the Public Ganeshotsav Mandal in Kangral Galli for failing to complete the immersion on the designated day. A separate case has been registered against five persons, including the president, of the Public Ganeshotsav Mandal in Ganachari Galli.

The Tilakwadi police have registered cases against two more mandals. Five office-bearers and members of the Shri Ganeshotsav Yuvak Mandal, Maruti Galli, Angol, have been booked following a complaint filed by Police Constable R.B. Pattanshetti.

Another case has been registered against five persons, including office-bearers of the Shriram Yuvak Mandal, Rajhans Galli, Angol.

More cases possible

While cases have so far been registered against four mandals, police action may extend to other mandals if violations of the prescribed immersion schedule are established.

The unusually long procession, which continued for around 42 hours, had raised questions over adherence to the immersion schedule and traffic-management arrangements during the festival.
