The Belagavi City Corporation has approved yet another study tour for corporators, with Delhi and Srinagar proposed as the destinations. The tour will be funded from provisions available to the Corporation under the Swachh Bharat Mission-2.

The proposal was approved unanimously at the Corporation’s general body meeting on Wednesday, September 30, with no objections or detailed discussion. The tour is likely to be held after Vijayadashami, with October 24 being considered the tentative date.

During the visit, corporators are expected to study sanitation systems, solid waste management, civic amenities and urban development initiatives in the two cities.

This will be the fourth study tour of the current Corporation council. The earlier tours included visits to Chandigarh, Indore and Jaipur. The Indore visit, in particular, focused on the city’s waste collection, segregation and processing systems, while the Jaipur visit covered urban development and civic management practices.

In October 2025, Belagavi corporators had visited Indore under a ₹60 lakh Swachh Bharat Mission allocation to study its solid waste management model. A separate 34-member team of Corporation health officials and sanitation workers subsequently visited Indore to examine waste segregation, door-to-door collection, sewage treatment and other systems.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Chief Accounts Officer Manjunath Bilgikar briefed the House about the funds available for the proposed tour. With no objections raised, the proposal was approved.

The key question now is what happens after the delegation returns. Given that the Corporation has already undertaken multiple study tours, citizens will be watching whether the latest visit results in specific, measurable improvements in sanitation and waste management in Belagavi, rather than remaining limited to observations and discussions.

It will also be important to see whether the Corporation defines the projects to be studied in advance and requires the delegation to submit a detailed report and implementation plan after returning from the tour.
