Different amounts reportedly collected from auto-rickshaws dropping passengers at Belagavi Airport have raised questions over the applicable tariff and the rules governing brief drop-offs.

The collection of entry charges from auto-rickshaws dropping passengers at Belagavi Airport has once again come under scrutiny, with two drivers reportedly being charged different amounts for the same purpose.

On Saturday, October 17, auto-rickshaw driver and vlogger Aman, who had earlier shared a video questioning the charge, reported being charged โ‚น50 again while dropping a passenger at the airport.

Separately, another auto-rickshaw driver, known to this correspondent, reported being charged โ‚น30 for dropping a passenger at the airport at the same time.

The difference in the amounts has raised questions about the applicable tariff and whether the charges vary according to the duration of the vehicle’s stay or other conditions.

Why is a charge imposed for a brief drop-off?

The central question is whether auto-rickshaws or in fact anyone entering the airport premises solely to drop passengers, are required to pay an entry fee, and, if so, what the officially approved rate is.

Drivers and members of the public need clarity on whether the amount collected is an entry fee, a parking charge or a designated pick-up/drop-off fee. The permitted duration for dropping passengers and the availability of any grace period also need to be established.

Aman had previously shared a video questioning why he had to pay โ‚น50 merely to drop a passenger and leave. His latest video indicates that the issue continues to concern drivers using the airport.

Airport authorities yet to respond

AllAboutBelagavi.com had earlier emailed the Airport Director seeking clarification on the charges, the applicable rates, the permitted duration for drop-offs and the official order authorising the collection.

However, no response has been received so far.

With drivers now reporting payments of both โ‚น30 and โ‚น50, the need for an official clarification has become more pressing.

The Airport Director’s office needs to clarify the approved tariff, the basis on which the amounts are collected, and whether the same rules apply to auto-rickshaws, taxis and other vehicles dropping passengers.

If the charges are officially authorised, the applicable rates and conditions should be clearly displayed and made accessible to the public.

Until the airport authorities provide details of the approved tariff and the order governing these collections, questions over the charges will remain unanswered.
