Marathas take out massive silent march

Thousands of people of the Maratha community took part in the “Maratha Kranti Mook Morcha” (Maratha Revolution Silent March) which also saw participation from socio-religious and political groups.

Members of the Maratha community on Thrusday took out a huge “silent march” in Belagavi in support of their charter of demands, including reservation.

Participation by a large number of women and college girls was one of the highlights of the event. Five girls spoke on the occasion on the various demands at Dharmveer Sambhaji circle where the march culminated.

Demands

A delegation of five schoolgirls will submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding:

•Reservation in education and government jobs.

•Punishment to culprits in Kopardi rape and murder case.

•Amendment to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 to stop its misuse.

•Early and peaceful solution to the boundary dispute.

It was a sea of people who began the march from Shivaji Garden in Shahpur and reached the end point.

Massive bandobast arrangements had been made to ensure that nothing untoward happened during the march.

The Muslim brothers and arranged special stall which supplied water, fruits to the participants of the morcha.
