In March 2017, Ghodawat Enterprises Private Limited had applied applied for permission to operate Scheduled Air Transport Service and to take it further sources have confirmed that a team from Star Air part of the Sanjay Ghodawat group from Jaysingpur visited Sambra airport to have a clear picture of the services available at the airport and also to ascertain what all it needs to do commence its services from Belagavi.
Star Air has already booked two 50 seater Embraer ERJ 145 planes and they will be delivered by the year end and Star Air plans to connect Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Tirupati from February 2018 tentatively.
According to sources at New Delhi, the Director General of Civil Aviation has already issued NoC to the Godhawat Aviations to commence its airline service. However, the identified routes are in the process of finalization.
The group was very keen to start operations from Kolhapur but with no facilities it has now decided to commence operations from Belagavi itself.

The company will market its services mainly to Kolhapur and surrounding areas and will also star a special bus to the airport.
As the company has already applied for Scheduled Air Transport Service operator, it can commence once it gets the approval from Airports Authority and DGCA in due course of time.
Currently we have the SpiceJet flying from Belagavi and is connected to Mumbai and Bengaluru. The work of expansion of the runway is complete and works on the new terminal building are in full swing. New ATC tower is also likely to be commissioned soon.
With night landing facility the entry of players like Star Air will definitely boost the aviation sector in tier 2-3 cities.
Good News for Belagavi People. Hope this service start soon and it will bring competition in Tier 2 cities for Fare and make life easier for frequent traveler.
