Bapu-Bittoo: Second capital

Photo of author

Bittoo: Bapu.

Bapu: Yes Bittoo.

Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy reportedly remarked that Belagavi will be accorded second capital of the State Bapu.

Bapu: Hummmmm, I read it in newspapers and online news portals too Bittoo.

Bittoo: But his remark has only sparked off a fresh controversy with the Shiv Sena asking Maharashtra government to approach the Supreme Court – seeking a contempt notice to Karnataka government in view of the fact that both the states were already embroiled in the boundary dispute before the apex court with Belagavi being central issue in Maharashtra’s demand for transfer of this boundary city to its State Bapu.

Bapu: Hummmmm! So what’s your point?

Bittoo: It is difficult to believe that Kumarswamy passed such major remark unwittingly Bapu?

Bapu: Hummmmm, you have a point!

Bittoo: And, can the State government change the status of Belagavi until the apex court delivered its verdict on the boundary dispute Bapu?

Bapu: The court is the competent authority to remark on such legal issues Bittoo.

Bittoo: I have a doubt Bapu.

Bapu: What is it about?

Bittoo: Is Kumarswamy playing to the gallery and resorting to damage control to calm down the public outrage he is facing in North Karnataka for his controversial remarks allegedly marked by regional discrimination or he means it, as it was he who as the then chief minister announced construction of the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha and also laid foundation stone St vaccine depot in Belagavi city in 2007 Bapu?

Bapu: I don’t know Bittoo.

This is a citizen-centric new column, wherein the author(Bitto) is an ordinary, politically unaffiliated common man of the city who in his/her inimitable approach takes up various issues with the Bapu’s soul! Apparently, the interaction between them portrays ironies of sorts encountered by the common man and others in the city in a lighter vein. The author’s name will not be disclosed to the readers as he/she represents the common man of the society. This column aims at creating awareness and sensitising cross sections of our city on various issues of public concern only but in a lighter vein without holding any contempt against any institution or individual.

  1. Dear editor , whats your view on this? Please let know.
Belgavi is in Karnataka and Karnataka government has right to declare it as second capital. Its already second capital , since legislative sessions are taking place in Suvarna Vidhan soudha.
Shiv Sena (A Maharashtrian political party) views doesnt matter.Their only intention is to create hatred and keep the unwanted issue alive.
BTW , what made you put this article in AAB.This wasnt required and not related to AAB news I think.
We should be happy that good things are happening to our city.

  2. Shiv Sena should think about Nagpur being second capital of Maharashtra though people of that region want a separate state VIDARBHA.
