Intel Corporation, a global leader in semiconductor innovation, has announced the appointment of Belagavi-born Sachin Katti as its new Chief Technology Officer and Artificial Intelligence Chief. The announcement came via a memo from Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, signalling a major reshuffle aimed at fortifying the company’s AI strategy and reclaiming its edge in the competitive chip market.

Katti, who hails from Belagavi and is an alumnus of St. Xavier’s High School, now joins the highest ranks at Intel, succeeding Greg Lavender, who is retiring. This marks a moment of immense pride not only for the Indian diaspora but especially for the Belagavi community.

🧠 A Mind Shaped in Belagavi, Polished Globally
After his schooling in Belagavi, Sachin Katti went on to complete his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious IIT Bombay. He then earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), graduating in 2005 and 2009 respectively. Over the years, he has carved a reputation as a pioneer in networking systems and wireless technologies.

At Intel, Sachin Katti previously led the networking chip division and was instrumental in driving innovation across Intel’s connectivity solutions. His promotion is seen as a strategic move, as Intel seeks to regain lost ground in AI chips where competitors like Nvidia currently dominate.

🚀 Leading Intel’s AI Future
Lip-Bu Tan, in his internal memo, expressed full confidence in Katti’s capabilities:
“Katti is expanding his responsibilities to include the role of chief technology and AI officer for the company. As part of this, he will lead our overall AI strategy and AI product roadmap, as well as Intel Labs and our relationships with the startup and developer ecosystems.”

As CTO and AI chief, Katti will steer Intel’s push into generative AI, high-performance computing, and edge solutions — areas that will define the next decade of computing. His leadership will also extend to Intel Labs, the innovation nerve center of the company, as well as its outreach to startups and the developer community.

🌍 Local Boy, Global Impact
For the people of Belagavi, Sachin Katti’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. From the classrooms of St. Xavier’s to the boardrooms of Silicon Valley, he exemplifies what dedication, intellect, and a strong educational foundation can achieve. His rise to one of the most critical roles in the tech industry is a reminder of the city’s quiet but impactful contribution to India’s global talent pool.

As the AI revolution gains momentum, all eyes will be on Intel — and by extension, on Katti — to see how the tech giant reinvents itself under his vision.

  6. But he is now US citizen, no more Indian. If he is in India and got this role at Bangalore then it’s a proud moment.

I don’t think it’s a moment for celebration, he can’t help people of Belgaum
