A tragic case of family suicide in Joshi Mala, Belagavi, has taken a new turn with police arresting three individuals following an investigation into the incident.
According to Shahapur Police, a case (Crime No. 73/2025 under Section 108 of the BNS-2023) was registered based on a complaint by Sunanda Ganapati Kuradekar. The incident involved the death of three family members — Santhosh Kuradekar (47), Suvarna Kuradekar (52), and Mangala Kuradekar (80) — who reportedly consumed a poisonous chemical solution. Sunanda Kuradekar, who also consumed the same, is currently undergoing treatment at BIMS District Hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.
Following leads from a death note found at the scene, police have arrested Rajesh Achyut Kudtarkar (52), a goldsmith from Keshav Nagar, Vadgaon, along with Bhaskar Sonarkar and Nanaso Shinde in connection with the case.
During a raid at Kudtarkar’s residence, Shahapur police, in the presence of witnesses, seized ₹7.7 lakh in cash and 661 grams of gold jewellery valued at ₹49 lakh.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase confirmed the arrests and said that the investigation is ongoing. Sunanda Kuradekar reportedly informed authorities that her brother Rajesh had 500 grams of gold, which aligns with the quantity recovered during the raid. Further inquiry is underway to uncover the full circumstances leading to the incident.
