Police opened fire on an accused after he allegedly attacked officers with a knife during an operation in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Superintendent of Police Dr. Bheemashankar Guled, the accused, identified as Ramesh Kilar, who is facing multiple criminal charges, first attacked and injured Constable Sharif Dafedar with a knife while being secured by the police team. Despite a warning shot fired into the air, Ramesh attempted to attack another officer. The accused involved in several crimes such as robbery, gang rape, and illegal possession of weapons.

In self-defence, Police Sub-Inspector Kittur Praveen shot Ramesh in the leg. Both the injured constable and the accused were immediately shifted to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) for treatment.
The Kittur Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
