The electricity supply to Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi is at risk of being disconnected, as Hescom (Hubli Electricity Supply Company) has issued a warning to the PWD due to non-payment of electricity bills.

The Suvarna Soudha, a government Legislature building constructed at a cost of several hundred crores of rupees, is primarily used for only 10 to 12 days annually during the Karnataka state winter legislative session. Now a few of the offices also operate from there. Over the past six months, the outstanding arrears have now reached ₹1.20 crore and yes, he building is illuminated at night as well now.

Hescom has sent an official notice, requiring the state government to clear the pending dues within a month, failing which the electricity connection will be disconnected.

The situation highlights the ongoing struggle to maintain Suvarna Soudha due to irregular funding from the state government. The building, often labeled a ‘white elephant,’ is now facing an additional financial challenge, with Hescom urging timely settlement of bills to avoid service disruption.
