Belagavi police have intensified action against the sale and use of dangerous manja (kite strings coated with glass powder or metal), which pose serious risks to citizens and motorists. Following directives to curb such hazards, raids were carried out in the Market and APMC police station limits.

During the operation, officers seized rolls of banned manja from two shops—one owned by Farooq Ahmed Gulab Ahmed Mulla (75), and another by Jamir Kulluddin Kashnati, a resident of Vaibhav Nagar. Cases have been registered against both under relevant sections of the Karnataka Police (K.P.) Act, and legal action is underway.

Authorities have warned all shopkeepers against stocking or selling such hazardous materials in the future. Parents have also been urged to ensure their children do not use dangerous manja while flying kites.
