A public grievance filed on the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) has brought to light the deteriorating condition of roads within the Belagavi Cantonment area.
The complaint, submitted by Anant Patil on September 30, 2025, highlighted that once well-maintained roads such as Nolan Road (near Military Mahadev Temple), Havelock Road, part of Gen. Thimayya Road, Cattle Road, and Rakaskop Road (from Shaurya Circle to Union Gymkhana) have fallen into disrepair. Patil stated that even basic patchwork repairs have not been carried out, leading to further damage to the remaining road surface.
He also pointed out that the L&T 24×7 Water Supply Project has damaged several cantonment roads during pipeline work and has failed to restore them despite repeated follow-ups.
In its reply, the Directorate General, Defence Estates (DGDE) acknowledged the issue but stated that the Cantonment Board, Belagavi, is currently unable to undertake road recarpeting due to financial constraints. The DGDE noted that roads like High Street, Cattle Road, and Havelock Road were dug up by L&T for pipeline work and remain unrestored. The board has requested L&T to repair these sections.

The reply further mentioned that the Hon’ble MLA of Belagavi North Constituency and the Garrison Engineer (MES), Belagavi, have also been approached for assistance in road recarpeting. Meanwhile, the Cantonment Board claims to be taking temporary measures such as filling potholes “as and when needed.”
Despite the grievance being officially closed on October 17, 2025, residents continue to face difficulties navigating through the damaged stretches, with many urging authorities to prioritize repairs before the condition worsens further.
