The Karnataka Lokayukta officials arrested Shri Ashok Shiroor, Executive Engineer of the Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Belagavi Division, for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹1 lakh to issue a compensation cheque related to a government land acquisition.
According to the complaint filed on October 17, 2025, with Lokayukta PI Niranjan Patil, the accused had allegedly sought ₹1 lakh from Yasin Pendhari of Khemalpur village, Raybag taluka, in return for releasing a government-sanctioned cheque of ₹18 lakh. The compensation pertained to the acquisition of 14 gunta of land for a drinking water supply project under the Amrutha scheme.

Following the registration and investigation of the complaint under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Lokayukta team, under the guidance of Shri Hanamantharaya, SP Lokayukta, Belagavi, arrested Shri Shiroor in his office on October 27, 2025. The investigation was led by PI Niranjan Patil and his staff.
