A total of 77 development projects will soon be implemented across Belagavi city under the ward budget and the Mayor’s Fund, with the City Corporation floating tenders worth ₹26.51 crore. The tender process is expected to be completed by the end of November, after which contractors will be finalized and works will begin in each ward.

Of the total amount, ₹25.51 crore has been earmarked under the ward budget, while ₹1 crore comes from the Mayor’s discretionary fund.

As per the Corporation’s construction department, corporators from the ruling group receive ₹50 lakh each, whereas opposition corporators get ₹33 lakh each for ward development. The Mayor is allocated ₹1 crore, with full authority to distribute it. So far, corporators from the ruling group have benefited from this allocation, prompting demands that opposition corporators receive equal access to the fund.

Initially, officials planned to club multiple works into combined packages for tendering. However, the Municipal Contractors’ Association opposed this, insisting that each development work should be tendered separately so that local contractors can participate. Following positive response from the Mayor and Commissioner, the Corporation agreed, and all 77 works have now been tendered individually.

The tenders were issued on November 6. While corporators from both groups submitted proposals for works to be taken up under the ward budget, the approved list clearly reflects a higher preference for proposals from the ruling group. Despite objections from the opposition, the works—primarily roads, drainage, and similar civic improvements—are set to move forward.
