Belagavi is bracing for a major political showdown on December 9, as the BJP prepares to “lay siege” to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, protesting what it terms the Congress government’s continued apathy towards farmers.

Former MLA Sanjay B. Patil said the protest—scheduled for 9 AM—aims to highlight the farmers’ agitation that has stretched on for nearly three months. “Nearly 10,000–20,000 farmers and BJP workers will gather to question the government and demand the justice our farmers deserve,” he said, accusing the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of “sleeping” through the crisis.

Adding to the escalation, MLA Abhay Patil called it one of the largest farmer-led movements in recent years. “Around 20,000 farmers have assembled. Under the leadership of the state president and opposition leaders, this is set to become a major front against the government’s anti-people and anti-farmer policies,” he said.
