The Karnataka Cabinet, which met at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, has given administrative approval to the Public Works Department (PWD) for the construction of an elevated corridor/grade separator connecting National Highway-48 to Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Circle via Ashoka Circle, Sangolli Rayanna Circle and Rani Chennamma Circle. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of โ‚น275.53 crore.

According to the Cabinet note, the elevated road will be 2.03 km long and is aimed at easing traffic congestion in the cityโ€™s core areas. The project is being taken up as a flagship initiative of the PWD under the leadership of Belagavi district in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi.

However, as per the blueprint earlier prepared by Hubballi-based VLS Consultants, the proposed main alignment of the flyover stretches from Sankam Hotel to Dharmaveer Sambhaji Circle (Bogarves), covering about 3.6 km, with the overall corridor โ€” including connecting stretches โ€” measuring around 4.5 km, linking NH-48 to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle via Ashoka Circle and Sangolli Rayanna Circle. The design envisages a four-lane elevated structure with an 18-metre-wide deck.

The variation between the Cabinet-approved length of 2.03 km and the earlier DPR projections is expected to be clarified during the detailed implementation and tendering stages of the project.
