Despite being inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on April 20, 2025, the Kalamandir commercial centre continues to remain closed, with the leasing process yet again hitting a roadblock.

Belagavi Smart City Managing Director Kavita Warangal said that earlier attempts to lease the facility failed to attract bidders. โ€œEarlier, tenders were invited twice for leasing the Kala Mandir, but no contractors participated, as anticipated. Following a review meeting held under the leadership of the DC, we are now preparing to invite tenders for the third time,โ€ she stated.

The Smart City Development Association, headed by Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan, had prepared a proposal to auction the commercial complex. Although the issue was placed before the general body meeting of the Corporation, no decision was taken as several key documents and supporting details were reportedly not submitted during the discussion.

Adding to the concern, chairs and fittings installed inside the newly constructed complex have already begun to rust, indicating deterioration due to prolonged non-use. The situation has raised questions about asset management and timely decision-making, especially for a facility developed under the Smart City project at significant public cost.

With a third tender now being planned, the focus is once again on whether the long-delayed Kalamandir commercial centre will finally become functional or continue to remain a locked and deteriorating public asset.
