A ten-year-old girl was injured after being attacked by stray dogs in Rayat Galli on Sunday afternoon, highlighting the growing problem of stray and abandoned dogs in the city.

The victim, Nivika Rathod (10), was reportedly attacked suddenly while moving in the area. She sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a government hospital for treatment. After receiving medical care, she was discharged and brought home on Monday.

The incident has caused fear and anxiety among residents of Rayat Galli, especially children and parents. Locals have expressed strong resentment over what they describe as the inaction of the Municipal Corporation in addressing the stray dog menace. Following the incident, residents approached the Corporation seeking urgent action to prevent similar attacks.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the poor implementation of norms related to stray animals across states. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N.V. Anjaria said state governments could be directed to pay heavy compensation in cases of dog bites, particularly when children or the elderly are injured.

The court also stated that people who feed stray dogs could be held responsible and accountable for such incidents, stressing that the safety of citizens cannot be compromised due to administrative inaction.
