The construction of the new integrated terminal building at Belagavi Airport (IXG) has reached 71.5% physical progress, with ₹158.27 crore already spent on the project, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation informed the Rajya Sabha.

In a written reply to an unstarred question raised by Shri Iranna Kadadi, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol stated that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is executing the terminal project along with allied works.

The new terminal is designed to handle 3.5 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2026, followed by about one month for operationalisation. However, the Ministry clarified that timelines may vary depending on land acquisition, statutory clearances, and other factors.

On runway extension, the Ministry said that there is currently no proposal under consideration to extend the runway to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A321 or Boeing 737 for international operations. Belagavi Airport continues to function as a domestic airport, presently operating A320-type aircraft.

The Ministry also clarified that Belagavi–Pune, Belagavi–Chennai, and Belagavi–Mangaluru routes were not included under UDAN 5.0, as all these airports are already classified as “served airports” and hence do not qualify under the Regional Connectivity Scheme.
