Belagavi city has been sanctioned 100 electric buses under the Central Government’s PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs informed the Rajya Sabha on February 9, 2026.
Replying to an unstarred question (No. 1020) raised by MP Iranna Kadadi, Minister of State Tokhan Sahu stated that a total of 750 e-buses have been sanctioned to 10 cities in Karnataka, of which 100 have been allocated to Belagavi.
₹6.85 Crore Sanctioned for Infrastructure
As per Annexure-I of the reply, Belagavi has been sanctioned ₹6.85 crore towards civil infrastructure under the scheme. The PM-eBus Sewa Scheme aims to deploy 10,000 air-conditioned electric buses across more than 100 cities, prioritising smaller cities and those without organised bus services. The scheme also provides Central Assistance for depot development and power infrastructure.

Bus Stand Projects Completed
On the status of bus infrastructure, the Karnataka Government informed that the Central Bus Station in Belagavi was constructed and inaugurated on December 27, 2022. Additionally, the Belagavi City Bus Station built under the Smart City scheme was inaugurated on October 4, 2025.
12.38 km of Cycle Tracks and Footpaths
Under Smart City initiatives, Belagavi has developed approximately 12.38 kilometres of Non-Motorised Vehicle (NMV) lanes, which include cycle tracks and pedestrian-friendly footpaths along major roads. These smart roads are designed to improve safe connectivity and promote sustainable mobility.
Ring Road Project Status
Regarding the proposed Ring Road to decongest city traffic, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken up the project. As per Annexure-II, Package-I is currently in the bidding stage, while Packages II and III are in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage.
Focus on Sustainable Mobility
The Ministry reiterated that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme is aimed at reducing emissions and promoting sustainable urban mobility in tier-2 cities like Belagavi.
The development is expected to significantly strengthen public transport infrastructure in the city and contribute to long-term traffic decongestion and environmental sustainability.
