The Forest Department has inspected the Club Road area of Belagavi following reports from a few citizens that a leopard was seen in the vicinity.

According to information shared with officials, some individuals claimed they noticed movement resembling a leopard in the dense bushes within a college campus along Club Road. Acting promptly on these inputs, Forest Department staff visited the spot and monitored the surroundings throughout the day.

Officials have clarified that, as of now, there is no official evidence, pug marks, or CCTV footage confirming the presence of a leopard in the area. However, as a precautionary measure, the department is maintaining a watch and coordinating with local police.

It may be recalled that in 2021, a leopard sighting was reported near the golf course in the same belt. At that time, extensive search operations were carried out with the help of trained staff and equipment. Despite efforts, the animal was not traced.

Authorities have urged citizens not to panic and to avoid circulating old videos, images, or unverified messages on social media. Sharing outdated visuals can create unnecessary fear and confusion.

Residents are requested to remain alert, especially during early morning and late evening hours, and to immediately inform the Forest Department or local police if they notice any suspicious animal movement. Timely and accurate information will help officials respond effectively.

The situation is currently under observation.
