Belagavi Lok Sabha MP Jagadish Shettar reviewed the progress of key infrastructure projects during a meeting with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Railways and Airport authorities, held in the presence of District Collector Mohammed Roshan.
Bypass Road:
Officials informed the MP that the 3–4 km Halaga–Mache stretch of the bypass road will be completed by the end of this month, while the entire 13.33 km bypass project is expected to be finished by December. The service road works are likely to be completed by April. Progress of the proposed ring road was also discussed during the meeting.
Officials further stated that the six-lane Belagavi–Sankeshwar highway is in the final stage of completion. Regarding the Belagavi–Hungund–Raichur highway, most of the land acquisition for the 43.8 km Phase-1 stretch has already been completed.
Railways:
On the Belagavi–Kittur–Dharwad railway line, officials said the first phase of land acquisition involving about 1,200 acres has been approved, and the state government has sanctioned ₹50 crore to compensate farmers. Once the process is completed, tenders for the railway line construction can be invited.
Railway officials also said permission has been sought from the Police Commissioner to change the traffic route near LC No. 381(Third gate) at Tilakwadi to facilitate construction of the second lane of the RoB.
Airport:
Shettar noted that development work at Belagavi Airport is progressing slowly as the Indian Air Force is yet to hand over the required land. He assured that the issue will be taken up with the concerned authorities.
The meeting was attended by Special Land Acquisition Officers Jainapura and Chavan, NHAI Project Director Bhuvanesh Kumar, and Airport Authority Director Thyagarajan, among other officials.
