Four Held for Circulating Fake Currency; 495 Counterfeit ₹500 Notes Seized

Market Police have arrested four individuals for attempting to circulate counterfeit currency in the city. A total of 495 fake ₹500 notes, along with mobile phones and a vehicle used in the crime, were seized during the operation.


The accused have been identified as:
Mohammad Arbaaz (21), South Goa
Rupesh Hanumantha Wakode (26), Goa
Mohammad Hussain Bakki (23), Margao, South Goa
Shravan Kumar Tuntunli (25), Begusarai


According to police, on March 15, 2026, the accused purchased goods from a shop on Khadebazar Road and paid using ₹500 denomination notes. The shopkeeper later suspected the notes to be fake and alerted the Market Police Station.
Acting swiftly on the information, Police Inspector J.M. Kalimirchi informed senior officials and, along with his team, rushed to the spot. The suspects were apprehended, detained, and interrogated. During questioning, all four admitted to attempting to circulate counterfeit ₹500 notes in the area.

Police seized the following items from the accused:
495 fake ₹500 notes
Four mobile phones worth approximately ₹40,000
One Maruti Suzuki VXI car
A case has been registered at Market Police Station under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway.


The prompt action by PI J.M. Kalimirchi, PSI Hussain Saba Kerur, and their team has been commended by the Belagavi City Police Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
