The condition of the historic well behind Kapileshwar Temple in Belagavi has turned critical, raising serious safety concerns in the surrounding area. A day after a tragic incident claimed the lives of two young boys, another section of the lakeโ€™s protective wall collapsed on Monday. Fortunately, no one was present nearby at the time, preventing further loss of life. However, consecutive wall failures have intensified fears about the safety of nearby homes.

On Sunday morning, Shivam and Parashuram lost their lives after a portion of the wall gave way while they were swimming in the lake. The incident drew sharp criticism of the authorities. In response, the Municipal Corporation has initiated immediate preventive measures, barricading the entire well vicinity to restrict public access. Additionally, three houses identified as highly unsafe have been sealed.

At least four to five houses in the vicinity have developed major structural cracks due to the deteriorating boundary. Families living in these homes are now in fear and have begun relocating.

The well and surrounding land, dating back to the pre-independence era, are privately owned by the Godse family. Despite repeated appeals over the years to repair the dangerously weakened walls, authorities refrained from intervention, citing private ownership.
