Belagavi Registers 3,532 New Vehicles in May; TVS Pips Honda, EV Adoption Remains Strong

Belagavi RTO (KA-22) recorded 3,532 vehicle registrations in May 2026, marking a decline from the 4,082 vehicles registered in April and significantly lower than the year’s peak of 5,510 registrations in March.

With May’s additions, the total number of vehicles registered in Belagavi during the first five months of 2026 has reached 20,311. Monthly registrations stood at 3,831 in January, 3,356 in February, 5,510 in March, 4,082 in April, and 3,532 in May.

Two-Wheelers Continue to Dominate

As in previous months, two-wheelers remained the backbone of vehicle registrations in the district. A total of 2,677 motorcycles and scooters were registered in May, accounting for more than three-fourths of all registrations.

Motor cars came a distant second with 488 registrations, followed by mopeds (57) and agricultural tractors (51).

Among transport vehicles, goods carriers led with 140 registrations, followed by three-wheeler passenger vehicles (50) and motor cabs (28).

At the lower end of the spectrum, categories such as ambulances, library vans, three-wheeler goods vehicles, maxi cabs and adapted vehicles recorded just one registration each.

Alternative Fuels and EVs Gain Ground

Fuel-wise, Petrol (E20) vehicles topped the list with 1,383 registrations, followed by petrol vehicles (1,008).

A notable trend continues to be the strong performance of electric vehicles. Pure EV registrations stood at 628, representing nearly 18 per cent of all registrations during the month. This is only marginally lower than April’s 675 EV registrations and indicates sustained consumer interest in electric mobility.

Diesel vehicles accounted for 288 registrations, significantly lower than petrol and EV numbers.

TVS Edges Ahead in Maker Rankings

In a closely contested race among manufacturers, TVS Motor Company emerged as the leading brand in May with 542 registrations, narrowly ahead of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India with 541 registrations. Hero MotoCorp followed closely with 525 registrations.

Among electric vehicle manufacturers, Ather Energy’s 107 registrations once again stood out, maintaining its position as one of the strongest EV brands in the district.

Interesting Trends

While March remains the strongest month of 2026 so far, May presents a few notable trends. Despite the overall drop in vehicle registrations, EV adoption has remained resilient, with registrations staying above the 600 mark. Another significant development is the intense competition among two-wheeler manufacturers, with just 17 registrations separating TVS, Honda and Hero.

The data also highlights Belagavi’s continued dependence on two-wheelers for personal mobility, with motorcycles and scooters accounting for nearly 76 per cent of all registrations.
