belgaum sykling photoBELGAUM: The Belgaum Cycling Club (BCC) was inaugurated at a quiet and elegant ceremony at the Belgaum Club by Mr. Bhaskar Rao, IGP Northern Range and the new president of the BCC Mr. Dipen Shah.

Launched to promote cycling as a way of transport and for a healthier lifestyle, BCC has planned its first cycle ride on Sunday, Oct 27 from Belgaum Club.
The event is part of a planned monthly ride system being created around Belgaum across various routes & different terrain allowing cyclists to experience nature and the natural beauty of Belgaum.

Shah says,โ€Belgaum has the numbers with respect to a cycling community, BCC as a platform can now provide them with the opportunity to ride more & experience more. The organising team of Tour of Nilgiris from Breakaway Sports Unlimited, are helping put a structure and purpose for Belgaum Cycling Club. Their experience is coming in quite handy. Add to that the support from Mr. Rao who is an avid cyclist himself said,โ€ I donโ€™t see why this wont succeed.โ€œ

People are quickly grasping the idea that cycling is no more just a mode of transportation but one that provides for good health, gives an opportunity to explore in a unique way and creating a sense of camaraderie & friendship amongst cyclists which you seldom see in other sport.

โ€œCycling and running helps me keep fit, allows my mind to be crystal clear and relieves stress. Its a safe mode of transportation especially within the city and overall has only advantages. Now with Belgaum Cycling Club being formed to provide a structure and encourage youngsters to take on the sport; I look forward to more and more cyclists in the roads.โ€ commented Mr. Rao.

To kick-start activities, Dipen Shah from Infinity Studios is organising a cycle maintenance workshop on Oct 20 at Infinity Studios opp millennium gardens, tilakwadi Belgaum-6 between 11am to 3pm. The free workshop will help cyclists and enthusiasts with lessons on how to clean a bike, tune it to perfection and help them with the nuances of cycling right. Following this would be BCCโ€™s first event on Sunday, Oct 27 from Belgaum Club when they would have their first of a series of bike rides & events. The rides created are free for participants, allowing cyclists to just come and have fun.
