Health Department’s online bidding offer was aimed to bring doctors to work in rural areas, Bengaluru Urban is still the most sought after district. For just 11 vacancies, 631 specialists have applied for Bengaluru Urban — the highest so far.
Belagavi, which has just nine vacancies, has got 267 applications.
Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, said the lowest bidder would be considered and selected by a committee headed by the jurisdictional District Health Officer.
The state government has decided to recruit specialist doctors in hospitals through online bidding. There is severe shortage of specialists in government hospitals at district and taluk centres. 1,000 posts of specialist doctors are vacant in various health centres across the state hence this scheme was envisaged.
