In view of rising tourist influx and safety concerns during the monsoon season, the Amboli Gram Panchayat, in coordination with Sawantwadi Police, has implemented strict regulations to manage monsoon tourism effectively. A key decision taken at the recent Monsoon Tourism meeting held at the Gram Panchayat Hall is to close the Amboli main waterfall for tourists after 5 PM daily.

The meeting, chaired by Sawantwadi Police Inspector Amol Chavhan, addressed growing issues of drunken behavior, improper conduct at religious sites, and traffic congestion. It was observed that many tourists arriving during the monsoon are under the influence of alcohol, often creating nuisance and endangering themselves and others, especially near sacred places like Hiranyakesh.

To preserve the sanctity of these religious sites and to ensure public safety, authorities have decided to completely close Hiranyakeshi tourism on Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, police will conduct alcohol checks on visitors, allowing only genuine pilgrims to proceed to the shrines. Shared rickshaws will be arranged as an alternative means of transport for darshan seekers.

Another significant concern is the evening traffic congestion near food stalls and tea shops located around the waterfall. Tourists often park their vehicles haphazardly and crowd the area, leading to gridlock. As a precaution, all stalls near the waterfall will be closed at 5 PM, simultaneously with the tourist evacuation from the main falls. Stall owners found violating these timings or encouraging inappropriate behavior will face legal action.

Inspector Chavhan also informed that police checkpoints at Bawalat Thitta will conduct thorough inspections of incoming vehicles. The Gram Panchayat will install notice boards at all major tourist spots and request public support to report any vehicle or individual found dumping garbage in the area.

Further infrastructure and safety measures include:

  • Setting up changing rooms at Hiranyakeshi and Kavalesad.
  • Designated parking space near the Amboli bus stand.
  • Installation of road reflectors on Ghat and Choukul roads.
  • Survey and removal of dangerous trees along the tourist routes with appropriate permissions.

To support enforcement efforts, a Police Mitra Association will be formed, with identity cards issued to volunteers aiding in regulation and crowd management. Roadside expansion near Kavalesad point is also planned to ensure smoother passage for vehicles.

Authorities have urged tourists to cooperate with these regulations, emphasizing that the goal is to make Amboli a safe, respectful, and enjoyable destination during the monsoon season.
