The long-neglected Belagavi-Bachi road, a crucial link for villages, was originally estimated to require ₹15 crores for a full renovation. However, recent allocations show only ₹9 crores sanctioned, raising concerns over whether this funding will suffice for a comprehensive overhaul or result in mere patchwork, as per the Sakal.
Villagers and residents protested against this and submitted memorandums to PWD minister, DC etc to garner their attention.
The stretch from the Camp Gandhi statue to Bachi has historically been underfunded, with funds consistently falling short of what’s needed.
Although widening space exists along the single-lane route from the Gandhi statue to the Hindalga Ganapati temple, restrictions due to the military area have stalled efforts for road expansion. The section from the Ganapati Temple to Ambewadi Cross is dual carriageway, but the rest remains single-lane.
Under the current ₹9 crore budget, only a two-kilometre stretch up to the Sulge petrol pump will be doubled, leaving the remaining road at risk of minimal patchwork instead of a complete rehabilitation. Residents and officials now question whether the reduced budget will suffice for the full-scale renovation needed or if the community will see only superficial improvements.
