Belagavi-Kittur-Dharwar Railway Line Update

Shrimati Angadi Mangal Suresh Member of Parliament Belagavi asked a question in the Loksabha about the Belagavi-Kittur-Dharwar Railway Line to which Minister of Railways, Communications And Electronics & Information Technology (Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw) replied –

The new line between Belagavi and Dharwad via Kittur (73 Km) has been sanctioned in Financial Year 2020-21 on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis between the Railway and the State Government of Karnataka and land to be given free of cost by the State Government of Karnataka.

The latest anticipated cost of the project is 927.42 crore. An outlay of 10 crore has been provided to this project for the financial year 2023-24. The State Government has entrusted the land acquisition to KIADB (Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board).

Requisitions for procurement of 888 Acre land have been submitted to KIADB. As on 01.04.2023, 31 projects (21 new lines and 10 Doubling) of 3,866 km length, costing 47,346 crore falling fully/partly in the State of Karnataka are in planning/approval/construction stage.

These include:-

 21 New Line Projects of total length 2,583 km at a cost of 33,218 crore, out of which 366 Km length has been commissioned.

 10 Doubling Projects of total length 1,283 km at a cost of 14,128 crore, out of which 780 Km length has been commissioned. Since 2014, there has been substantial increase in fund allocation and commensurate commissioning of projects across Indian Railways.
