Belagavi Mayor Sou Shobha Payappa Somanache has requested a meeting with the Governor of Karnataka to address the recent events that took place in the Belagavi City Corporation.
During the general meeting held on October 21, 2023, the elected members of the City Corporation presented a memorandum highlighting the Commissioner’s negligence of duty. In response, a resolution was passed recommending appropriate action against the responsible officials, which was forwarded to departments such as SC, DPAR, and DOPT.
In light of this issue, Mr. Satish Jarakiholi, the district in-charge minister, publicly stated that he would dissolve the Belagavi City Corporation if action is taken against the guilty officials. This statement has caused great concern among the residents of Belagavi, as it seems to be an attempt to undermine the authority of the 58 corporators.
Given the gravity of the situation, The mayor has requested a meeting with approximately 37 members of the City Corporation, to discuss this matter and other important events while upholding their dignity.
Furthermore, the State government recently issued a show-cause notice highlighting three irregularities: a delay of over three years in revising tax rates, the appointment of pourakarmikas in violation of rules, and the failure to adhere to certain protocol guidelines.
