Belagavi women get wings through WEDA on International Women’s Day

With an objective to empower women by linking their home made products to the domestic and international market, the University of Agricultural Sciences has signed a MoU with WEDA through its Vice Chancellor B S Janagoudar. WEDA is Women Entrepreneurs Development Association, an NGO working for the welfare of women.

This project will educate women about market strategies and advance technology. They would be exposed to the needs of the market, raw materials available and the products to be designed. Skill enhancement programmes would be conducted regularly along with technical training. The women who are selected for the training program will be given a stipend of Rs 5500 per month till the training is completed.

wedaThe term of the MoU is 5 years and WEDA aims to make at least 5000 women as entrepreneurs.

The programme would be launched under the slogan, ‘one village, one product’. The rural women would be exposed to handicrafts, fashion designing, jute fabric designs, value addition to home made products, making hand bags etc.

The core team consists of Rathi Shrinivasan, Vaishali Manoj Upadhye, Rupa Pramod Desai, Shruti Subhash Vernekar and Sucheta Inamdar from Belagavi.
