Dinesh More – A proud Belgaumite’s journey to I.R.S.

After passing his matriculation in 1980 from St.Paul’s High School Camp Belagavi and finishing his post-graduation, he joined the Central Excise & Customs Department in April 1987 as an Inspector and later got promoted to Superintendent in 2009. Dinesh is currently posted as Assistant Commissioner (IRS), Central Goods & Services Tax at Pune, and has completed 36 years of meritorious service.

Widely known as a no-nonsense and upright Superintendent in the Department of Customs, Dinesh has actively participated in numerous cases involving not only the seizure of gold, silver, and imported vehicles but also gathering classified information, planning actions, executing and cracking several narcotic cases such as seizure of ganja, cocaine, heroin, etc. During his Central Excise tenure, he has dealt with the top brass of the corporate sector as well as drug lords involved in smuggling activities.

Apart from his administrative prowess, Dinesh has also been organizing events such as All-India Central Revenue Sports / Independence Day / Republic Day / Customs Day / Central Excise Day / GST Day functions, for his department.

He was deputed by his Department to the Ministry of Commerce, in the Kandla Special Economic Zone (Gujarat), where his leadership qualities, team spirit, facilitating and & cooperative nature brought him the opportunity to be posted as the first PRO in the Kandla SEZ, to deal with the prospective Indian as well as the foreign investors and convert them into actual stakeholders in the SEZ.

The officer has shouldered diverse responsibilities in the course of his career. He has always lived up to the challenges assigned to him with a great amount of accomplishment. He has made a mark wherever he was posted and has always been amongst the top performers. He has proved himself an accomplished team player and an exceptional crisis manager, bankable in any situation for his department.

During his service spanning more than three decades, Dinesh has showcased his abilities, in an exemplary manner, which has won him many accolades and recognitions. A few of his accomplishments are:

 PRO at the Kandla SEZ: Dinesh More’s proactive involvement, enabled him to be appointed as the first Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Zone. He did complete justice to his assignment as PRO and His hard work laid a strong foundation for what turned out to be a monumental success. His efforts and strategies persuaded many new manufacturing companies to move into the zone. Today, Kandla SEZ has a shining success story.

• Gujarat suffered one of the most devastating earthquakes in our history in 2001. At this time, Mr. More was posted in Kandla SEZ and he was in the forefront in the relief operations of the companies and the workers working therein. His timely efforts ensured the swift restoration of normalcy in the Kandla SEZ.

• Dinesh More was posted as the security officer and his singlehanded intervention helped in dousing a massive fire that erupted in one of the companies in the SEZ and posed a serious threat to all the neighboring units in the Kandla SEZ.

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, it was a tough time for all. Dinesh led from the front and ensured that all his co-officers were taken care of. During the brutal first and second waves which took heavy tolls, he had initiated all possible preventive measures to contain the pandemic.

A glance at his career graph throws up an account of the diverse responsibilities shouldered by him. He has lived up to all the challenges with aplomb. He has left an indelible mark in each of his undertakings, whether it is the Customs / Narcotic section, Central Excise, Service Tax, Kandla SEZ, or GST Intelligence. His versatility is evident as a tough revenue officer and a pleasing trade facilitator. He is an accomplished team player and an exceptional crisis manager, bankable in any situation. He has proven to be an asset to his department.

Mr. Dinesh B. More has received many appreciations from his department viz. the Commendation Certificate while in Customs, Samman Patra while in Central Excise and Service Tax, and several Letters of Appreciation while in the Audit for highest Tax detection and recovery of taxes. On the GST Day ceremony held on 01.07.2023 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, he was awarded the most prestigious Commendation Certificate, 2023 at the hands of Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon. Union Finance Minister.

  1. You will find Proud Belgaumites all over the world.Have met them in USA UK and where not. The place is like a magnet drawing people from all walks of life back to their place of origin .I stay in Delhi but visit Belgaum atleast 4 times a year.

  2. A nice profile by Praveen Kulkarni of a wonderful human being. His maternal grandparents, the Kurnes who lived in Gondhali Galli Belgaum were kind and gentle souls and I am sure they are looking at Dinesh from above with joy and pride.
