The Hidkal and Rakaskop reservoirs, the primary water sources for Belagavi city, have more water stored this year than last year. Despite this, authorities have urged residents to use water judiciously to avoid wastage.

Increased Water Levels
Rakaskop Reservoir: With a total capacity of 2,476 feet, the reservoir currently holds 2,473.35 feet of water, an increase of 1.4 feet compared to last year when the level was 2,471.95 feet.

Hidkal Reservoir: Out of a full capacity of 51 TMC, the reservoir presently stores 42.241 TMC, which is 4.307 TMC more than last year’s 38.534 TMC.
This improved storage is attributed to favorable rainfall last year, ensuring a steady water supply till the end of May.

Despite the improved levels, Belagavi residents have been advised to use water sparingly. Currently, water is supplied once every 3 to 4 days.

Authorities hope to avoid the severe shortages typically experienced in April and May, thanks to the ample reserves. However, they stress that collective conservation efforts are crucial to ensure uninterrupted supply through the summer months.
