New regulation prohibits the use of Sunset Yellow and Carmoisine in veg, chicken, and fish kebabs due to health risks
After banning artificial colors in colour candy, GobiManchurian, K’taka Govt bans the use of synthetic colours-Sunset Yellow, Carmoisine in Veg, fish, and chicken Kebabs. Violation will attract 7-yr jail term, up to ₹10 lakh penalty.
Regarding banning the addition of artificial colors in the preparation of kebabs due to adverse effects on the health of the public/consumers due to the addition of artificial colors in Veg/Chicken/Fish other kebabs sold across the state.
In connection with the above matter, the quality of kebabs being sold across the state is poor due to artificial coloring, which is causing adverse effects on the health of the public, in the background of reports in the media and from the public, samples of the kebabs being sold across the state will be collected and analyzed in the state laboratories.
Samples of 39 kebabs sold across the state will be collected and analyzed in state laboratories. Out of the samples analyzed, 08 kebab samples were found in the analytical reports to be unsafe due to artificial color (Sunset Yellow 07 samples and Sunset Yellow and Carmosine 01 samples) in the analysis reports, as per Rule 3(1)(zz)(viii) of The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. are reported as
The Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 8 2 16.0 No artificial colors shall be used. Artificial colors can seriously affect the health of the user.
In this background, the use of any artificial colors in the preparation of kebab is not permitted under Rule 16.0 of The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 2 2 3 (1)(zz)(viii) The Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011. In exercise of the powers conferred by Rule 30(2)(a) of the Safety and Quality Act-2006, it has been ordered to prohibit the use of any artificial colors in the preparation of Veg/Chicken/Fish Other Kebabs. Rule 59 of the Food Safety and Quality Act-2006 on the manufacturer in case of violation from 7 years to life term, upto ₹10 lakh penalty
