Mr. Javagal Srinath, former fast bowler Indian Cricket team, Secretary Karnataka Cricket Association and Member of Elite Panel of ICC match referee flagged off the Racing car completely designed and developed by our students in Gogte Institute of Technology premises on 28th July 2011 at 1.00 pm. Shri A. G. Kulkarni Chairman Karnatak Law Society, Shri U. N. Kalkundrikar Chairman- Governing council, GIT, Dr. A. S. Deshpande Principal GIT and other dignitaries were present during the event. Later in the day Mr. Javagal Srinath interacted with enthusiastic students of the institute at Silver Jubilee Auditorium in the campus.
This project was designed and developed under the guidance of faculty advisors Prof. Uday N. Chate and Prof. Shrinivas L. Gombi. Leading petroleum products industry Styron from United States of America and the Software giant Geodesic from Mumbai have whole-heartedly sponsored the project.
Team Lakshya Racing of KLS Gogte Institute of Technology Belgaum, was one among 44 shortlisted teams which participated in SUPRA 2011, a National Level Competition, organized by SAE INDIA, which was held from 1st to 3rd of July 2011 at Madras Motorsport Race Track (MMRT) Chennai. The Team consisting 13 students and 2 faculty advisors from various branches and academic years has done the conceptual design, entire fabrication and testing in the college premises only.
The designed Formula-3 type of car has been adjudged as one among the cost effective, fuel-efficient with lightweight. The experts from John Deree have technically inspected this car during the fabrication stage, who visited the campus earlier.
This car is having an 800cc Maruti engine of 76 BHP. The maximum speed limit being 120kmph, it has the wheel base of 1.45m and overall length of 2.6m as per the rules specified by the organizers.
The car underwent rigorous evaluation procedure under different parameters like static and dynamic tests, cost analysis, design analysis, endurance tests, leakages and noise tests etc. The car received a great appreciation from automotive experts Maruti, BMW, AUDI, General Motors and many others.
