Malaprabha Jadhav aims for Gold at Asian Games in Kurash

Turmuri is small village near Belagavi, known to a few as it holds the Garbage depot for Belagavi city, but now this village is all proud for this Farmer’s daughter who despite the odds, national martial arts fighter Malaprabha Jadhav is raring to go and aiming for the Gold at the 18th Asian Games to be held in Jakarta from today.

Malaprabha is scheduled to play her matches on 28th August, 1 PM (IST)

Malaprabha will represent India in Kurash (a form of martial arts) in the Women’s 52 kg category at the Asian Games under the guidance of coach Jitendra Singh who is leaving no stone unturned so that this girl can win laurels for her nation.

Malaprabha-Jadhav Kurash

Kurash is a traditional martial art from Uzbekistan that resembles wrestling. Kurash is new to be played in the Asian Games. Kurash is a form of upright jacket wrestling native to Uzbekistan, practiced since ancient times. It is played by two athletes, one wearing a green jacket and the other a blue jacket.

Malaprabha bagged Ekalavya award from the government and also Karnataka Olympic Association Award. She has bagged silver medal in the Indo Asian Games held at Kyrgyzstan and pocketed bronze in the Asian Championships held in Pune. She has secured 4 prizes in National level games which include two gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

Her family works in a small field and managing the expenses of the sports and family is getting tougher day by day for Yallapa Jadhav, father of Malaprabha. He wants her daughter to scale new heights, win medals for the country but it is an ardous task given his meagre earnings.

Malaprabha is aware of all this situation but is also sure to win a gold at the Asian games, she said, I will do my best, Getting the gold is my dream and I will get it at any cost.

Jitendra Singh, Judo Coach, who has been training Malaprabha for last 9 years says, Malaprabha is the medal favorite but it can be achieved only fulfilled after she undergoes special training for Kurash, a traditional martial art from Uzbekistan that resembles wrestling. Kurash is a new game to be played in the Asian Games
