The celebrations of the 57th Karnataka Rajyotsava took off with the ceremonial puja to goddess Bhuvaneshwari Devi and a cultural procession was flagged off at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Tableaux depicting the culture and development of the state besides different folk teams will participated in the procession. Light showers were continuously pouring since 1030 a.m. which dampened the spirits a bit. There was tight security in the city and 30 CPIs , 10 DySPs, 100 PSIs, 100 ASIs, 1,500 police personnel, 10 each KSRP and DAR platoons were deployed in the city.

The MES took out a two-wheeler rally from Sambhaji Udyan, Mahadwar Rd, Tashildar Galli, SPM Rd, Khade Bazaar, Basveshwar Circle and rally ended at Maratha Mandir. Activists wore black ribbons on their arms and carried black flags to protest against the inclusion of Belgaum and several other towns in Karnataka during the reorganisation of States.

Kannada and Culture Department has organised cultural programmes for school and college students. Folk artistes, vocalists, and instrumentalists will participate in the programme which will be held at the Kumar Gandharva Rangamandira at 5.30 p.m.
