Dr. Veeresh Manvi, a leading Paediatric Cardiologist at KLES Dr. Prabahakar Kore Hospital and MRC, Belagavi has spearheaded a significant advancement in neonatal cardiac care. Through early prenatal diagnostics, critical heart defects in unborn infants are now detectable, paving the way for life-saving interventions.

Recently, Dr. Veeresh Manvi’s team achieved a milestone by successfully performing a rare neonatal cardiac intervention on two newborns diagnosed with critical valvular aortic stenosis at just 10 and 15 days old. This condition, characterized by severe narrowing of the aortic valve, was identified during pregnancy, allowing the medical team to prepare thoroughly for the procedure. The ability to diagnose such conditions prenatally signifies a remarkable leap in medical science, with routine anomaly scans of the fetus now capable of detecting the majority of defects.

Dr. Manvi diagnosed the heart defect in both babies during pregnancy, advising the parents to continue with the pregnancy while assuring them of the potential for successful surgery. Upon birth, when the infants exhibited symptoms, they underwent balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) performed by Dr. Manvi himself, supported by an expert team including Anaesthesiologists Dr. Anand Vagrali, Dr. Kedar, and Dr. Mahantesh Mudkangoudar. Post-procedure care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was overseen by Dr. S. M. Dhaded and Dr. Manisha Bhandankar, with technical assistance provided by Mr. Rajesh.

The success of this rare cardiac procedure underscores KLE Hospital’s dedication to state-of-the-art neonatal and Paediatric cardiac care, guided by the leadership of Dr. Gananjay Salave, Chief Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon, and Dr. Nidhi Goel Manvi, Paediatric Cardiac Intensivist. Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chairman of KLE Society, and Dr. Col. Dayanand, Medical Director, lauded Dr. Manvi and his team for their exceptional work in saving the lives of these infants.
