Well grown trees in Khade Bazar which were planted by the City corporation only under the Green city banner have been chopped, in a view to decongest the road the officials said.
These trees were hurdles for smooth flow of traffic hence they have to face the Axe, sources said.
Environmentalists are however unhappy with this act of the corporation.
These trees were quite well grown and giving shade, but the corporation now has cut them.
In the anti encroachment drive taken by the corporation last week, they have removed the encroachments but trees are also being removed.
Hawkers get back to business after the anti encroachment squad goes away and the roads are congested again.
Encroachment removal was necessary as many shops were utilizing the gutters and some even road to store their goods.
