T20 cricket is making itself very popular thanks to the prolific brains. It was ICL, IPL, and then the KPL and now Belgaum has two T 20 tournaments one Belgaum Premier League organized by Union Gymkhana and another is Belgaum Champions league (BCL) organized by Bhatkande Sports club.

unionUnion Gymkhana’s Belgaum Premier League (BPL) will commence from 19th December and about 10,000 spectators would be able to see the match live at the stadium.

The bidding for the BPL is on at the Gymkhana at this moment. 10 bidders have put in their bids but only 8 will be selected.

  1. Congrats to UG! Hope the old cricket charm will return to UG ground. In the forties and fifties there was lot of competitive cricket played in Belgaum. There used to be two main tournaments. Saraf Shield for HS level boys & Latthe Shield open to all. In those days, when cities population was around forty thousand cricket lovers never fail to miss a match. Teams from Hubli (Railways) Kolhapur. Sangli, Kirloskarwadi, Sawantwadi used to participate in the tournaments every year. Vijay Hazare, Vivek Hazare and many Ranaji Players had played cricket at UG. Dr. Khot, Saraf, Dr.Suresh Kittur, Amanullha Kittur, Deshpnade Bros., Kabbe,Narse,Chougule, Mahagaonkar,Haldankar,Gunaji, and many more were great cricketer. They were all gentlemen cricketers. Hope this BPL will produce great cricketers. Wishing all the best to all the franchises and also to my colleague Sanjay Patilji, the sponsor.
