Police Commissionerate for Belgaum to be operational from August 1

District incharge minister Satish Jakhiholi today declared that the Police Commissionerate for Belgaum would be made operational from August 1, 2014 and the current IGP Bhaskar Rao would be the first Commissioner for Belgaum. The state already has Police Commissionerate at Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Gulburga and Hubli-Dharwad.

This was a long pending demand for Belgaum especially after the Suvarna Soudha was built and the flow of VIP and VVIPs increased.

Currently the office of the Police Commissionerate would be housed in the SP’s office. CM of Karnataka would come to inaugurate the same on August 1.

15 police stations would be under the Police Commissionerate which includes 12 for Law and order 2 for traffic and one Womens police station.

In all 514 new posts have been created. In which Market, Khade Bazar, Rural and Traffic stations would have 5 new ACP’s, 19 PI, 34 PSIs, 73 ASI, 256 CSC and 780 constables.

The Police Commissionerate is proposed to be built on a 3 acre plot in Kumar Swamy layout.

The Camp Police station would be renamed as Cantonment Police station. This was told by IGP Bhaskar Rao.
