St. Paul’s Lifts The Royceton Gomes Memorial Cup 2015

St. Paul’s High School and Sant Meera High School clashed in the Finals of the Memorial Cup 2015 of the Royceton Gomes Memorial Football Tournament yesterday on the grounds of St. Paul’s High School. The Chief Guest for the Finals was Principal of St. Paul’s High School, Rev. Fr. Basil Vagho, and special Guest of Honour was Mrs. Vanessa Gomes-Mendonca, sister of Master Royceton Gomes. It was an exciting match amid roaring cheering and huge crowds from the stands. St Paul’s took charge of the game right from the starting whistle. St. Paul’s kept possession of the ball for the major part of the play in the first half. St. Paul’s created many chances but it was well defended by the Sant Meera goal-keeper Hritik Shinde. St. Paul’s kept up the pressure and Sourab Tarale managed to open the score for St. Paul’s in the 29th minute. In the second half, St. Paul’s kept up the the tempo of the game, playing their best by controlling the ball well. Sant Meera had a powerful shot at the goal but was very well defended by St Paul’s. Then in the 44th minute Amaan Rajgoli scored the second goal for St. Paul’s. But in the 55th minute, Shashank Bolgundi of Santa Meera scored a goal for Sant Meera in the 55th minute. The match was extremely excited with huge crowds cheering both sides but St. Paul’s won the match 2 – 1. 

After the match, the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Basil Vagho, said a few words and gave encouraging words to the players and crowd gathered. The Prize Distribution followed where the following special prizes were awarded — for the Qualifying Round, The Highest Goal Scorer went to Master Adarsh Kamagouda of Love Dale Central School. The Best Goal-Keeper went to Master Mahendar Singh Potiwal of Karnataka Daivajnya School and the Best Player went to Master Md Affan Savanur of St. Mary’s High School and Master Omar Farooq Kalkundri of Love Dale Central School.

 

For the Main Draw round, the Highest Goal Scorer went to Master Vedant Halgekar of Dnyan Prabodhan Mandir School. The Best Goal-Keeper went to Master Kalmesh Kurubagatti of Mahila Vidyalaya Mandal School, and the Best Player went to Master Aniket Patil of Marathi Vidyaniketan School.

The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Vanessa Gomes-Mendonca, awarded the individual trophies, certificates and Trophy cup to the Runners-Up Sant Meera High School followed by the Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Basil Vagho, awarding the individual trophies, certificates and Trophy cup to the Winners. Finally, Mr. Joe Gomes, the founder of the Tournament, along with the Chief Guest handed over the Royceton Gomes Memorial Rolling Trophy to the Winners St. Paul’s High School.

  2. Congratulations St. Paul's on Winning the Trophy. Credit goes to all the players, coaches, support staff and the team management. It was a wonderful match to watch it live even tough it started raining in the second half. One of the most prestigious football tournament in Belgavi.
