NGO helplines are saviors in time of the pandemic

The second wave of the pandemic has hit hard and the spread has been very fast and is multiplying each day with a new peak.

During these tough times, when the family is shattered with the outcome of the covid test, they need help and support.

If the condition of the patient worsens, then it is a nightmare to get for a bed, and this where the NGO helplines have come in time as the saviors.

Many NGO’s have commenced helplines with main motto of service to the society.

They help the needy with all kind s of help from getting a bed to an ambulance to oxygen to food or even the cremation.

COVID support group Belgaum- a group of NGOs started last year that have continued their services and are helping 24 x 7.

Majorly they have received requests for Ambulance/crematory services – 20%, Ventilators/beds . – 20%, Oxygen – 20%, Remedivisir – 10%, Food – 10%, Isolation – 20%

The Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh – COVID helpline -Jana Kalyan trust which had commenced a COVID care centre last year is also helping the society and they got requests Remedivisir – 30%, Ventilators/beds . – 25% , Oxygen. – 20% , Food – 5% , Isolation. – 20%

The BJS & JITO Belagavi COVID-19 Helpdesk started recently got calls for

Remedivisir – 25%, Ventilators/beds . – 20%, Oxygen. – 20%, Food – 0%, Vaccination – 10% , Isolation. – 25%

COVID Relief task force Belgaum – Jammat-E-Islam Hind got requests for

Remedivisir – 30%, Ventilators/beds – 30%, Oxygen – 20%, Food – 0%, Isolation – 10% , Ambulance- 10%

As of now from this we can understand the need of the society has been on requests for

1) Remedesivir and 2) Ventilators/Beds

now what happens when they actually get the calls for the above 2 major parameters,they (Call Center Executives ) either call the hospitals or the concerned drug departments so its a kind of helpless situation.

Also a need for an isolation centre where asymptomatic patients can be treated looks like the need of the hour from the data analysis. As currently there aren’t any COVID care centres many get admitted to the hospital where otherwise they could have got simple treatment at the Covid care centre and one bed would have been available for the moist needy who required more care.

This time around we have the local physicians treating mild Asymptomatic patients in their respective areas and are reducing the burden on Hospitals.

In the days to come such centres must be spread their reach across the talukas and rural areas as well so that with a better reach, we are able to provide better health care services to the needy.
