The implementation of the ambitious CITIIS 2.0 project in Belagavi has gathered pace, with the City Corporation identifying three locations for setting up Secondary Transport Stations (STS) across the city. A site inspection was recently conducted by Municipal Commissioner Kartik M. along with senior officials to review the proposed locations and related infrastructure.
Secondary Transport Stations are considered a key component of modern scientific solid waste management. Under the CITIIS 2.0 project, waste collected from door-to-door garbage vehicles will first be brought to these stations, where it will be scientifically segregated, consolidated, and then transported in bulk to the processing facility at Turmuri. Officials said this system will improve efficiency in waste transportation and strengthen segregation practices across the city.

As part of the plan, one STS each has been proposed for the North, Central, and South zones of Belagavi. In the North zone, sites have been identified at the Municipal Corporation garage in Sadashivnagar and one location in Autonagar.
For the South zone, a plot owned by the Corporation near Jain College in Udyambag has been earmarked as a parking and operational facility for garbage trucks and other solid waste management vehicles. The existing garage at Sadashivnagar will similarly cater to vehicles operating in the northern zone.
Officials stated that the Corporation will provide the required land for all three Secondary Transport Stations. However, the location for the proposed Compressed Biogas (CBG) project under is yet to be finalised.
The CITIIS 2.0 project had recently drawn attention over the allocation of the Belagavi City Corporationโs financial contribution towards the scheme. The General Body of the Corporation has already passed a resolution approving its share of funding, and the final project blueprint has now been submitted for approval.
