Bapu-Bittoo: In search of answers

Photo of author

Bittoo: Bapu.

Bapu: Yes Bittoo.

Bittoo: The Congress and the other Opposition parties organised nation wide bandh, evoking mixed response to the protest against sky-rocketing prices of petroleum fuel, LPG and miserably weakening of Indian rupee today Bapu?

Bapu: Yes Bittoo. The poor and middle class sections are apparently affected due to cascading impact of fuel price rise on a host of products and services, besides impact of GST regime directly and indirectly affecting trade and commerce, declining job opportunities for educated youth and growing input cost of farming activities-eventually making the cost of living of the common man more expensive Bittoo.

Bittoo: Well, that’s fine Bapu. But why is that the government is not bringing the petroleum-based fuels under GST net as being demanded by the people of the country Bapu?

Bapu: I don’t know Bittoo.

Bittoo: And, why the Congress, which is desperately looking at returning to power at the centre, is not promising that it will bring the fuels under GST net or undo with the GST itself Bapu?

Bapu: I don’t know Bittoo.

This is a citizen-centric new column, wherein the author(Bitto) is an ordinary, politically unaffiliated common man of the city who in his/her inimitable approach takes up various issues with the Bapu’s soul! Apparently, the interaction between them portrays ironies of sorts encountered by the common man and others in the city in a lighter vein. The author’s name will not be disclosed to the readers as he/she represents the common man of the society. This column aims at creating awareness and sensitising cross sections of our city on various issues of public concern only but in a lighter vein without holding any contempt against any institution or individual.
