It was a humble beginning in 1987, when a Pharmacist who hailed from a family of Doctor’s decided that we wont become one and commenced his pharmacy shop in the small town of Mudhol, in Bagalkot district. The business grew over the years but this person had astronomic aspirations and he then decided to start his own manufacturing plant at Mudhol to make injectable’s.

Meet, Satish M Gharge Chairman and Managing Director of Shree Anand Life Sciences Limited, whose professional life commenced as chemist and today he is making a setting up a state of the art factory at the Honga Industrial area, Belagavi which will manufacture injection’s including life saving drugs.

He is already running a factory Anand Pharmaceuticals at Mudhol of Bagalkot, which is engaged in manufacturing the same.

Speaking to AAB Gharge recalled that when he was a chemist, he met the then Drug Inspector of Bijapur Raghuram Bhandari and asked his guidance. When Bhandari inquired, he said he wanted to commence with a repacking of bulk drugs. He later took Gharge for visit to pharmacy industries to know them and that was the first time when he saw the injectible manufacturing unit and this is what hypnotized him and Gharge finalised to come up with similar unit and hence approached TECSOK (Technical Consultancy Services organisation of Karnataka). He availed loan from Karnataka State Finance Corporation.

The company has completed all the statutory requirements of licence and will commence commercial production from April 2017. Infact the Pilot batches are in progress, and they have been granted licenses and are waiting for WHO GMP to be granted from then they can commence EXPORT.

A pharmaceutical formulation unit established in 1986 and began commercial production from 1989 as s partnership concern in the Small Scale Industry category. The unit has been licensed under Schedule M of Drugs and Cosmetics Act with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification. The unit is on Rate Contract of Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Services since 1992. The unit is also approved on the Rate Contract for Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. There were several ups and downs while establishing himself, but he had set his goals and continued working hard to accomplishing them, finally reaching success. Opening a plant in Mudhol was not easy from many points like logistics, skilled labour but he went on with his dream. Setting up the injectible plant in 1989 was quite an adventure of sorts with very little machinery then, but he kept his vision and expanded as and when it was required and now houses 65 employees.

Gharge had traveled a lot for growing his business and during the same time he realized that this sector has huge potential but has to be tapped the right way and hence he decided to start Shree Anand Life Sciences Limited and shift his manufacturing base to Belagavi which is strategically located.
With over 20 years of success in the industry and foreseen tremendous scope of growth in pharmaceutical sector for supply of products in domestic market, Government Institutional supplies and exports. The new manufacturing facility has compliance to cGMP and WHO norms and shall also cater for contract manufacturing to top multinationals and leading players of the pharmaceutical industry. Shree Anand Life Sciences Ltd (SALSL), with its innovative products will propel into the Indian pharmaceutical market space and emerge as the most admired brand, which will create values and generate incredible revenues for its stake holders.
The new 2 acre factory being set up at Honga Industrial unit is the 8th in Karnataka and one of the biggest in North of the state with almost 70,000 sq feet built up area and all as per the W.H.O guidelines.

The plant is very huge machinery is being installed and production is slated to commence in 12-18 months which will employ about 120-150 pharmacists, micro biologists. Machinery has been imported where needed as per the global standards and also USFDA regulations. The new unit will make Liquid, dry and Lyophilised injections.
Speaking to AAB Gharge said,

in the 200 km radius of Belagavi, more than 15 pharmacy colleges are located. Several passed out students are being forced to approach Mumbai, Bengaluru or Gujarat in search of jobs, due to no proper pharmacy industries in here. My new factory can provide employment to such eligible candidates.

He further added

as per the new CGMP a country like India can be a manufacturing hub and with its huge population the market within the country itself is very huge. So tapping this market is important at the right time. The new unit will cater to Institutional supplies, Domestic supplies, Exports to various countries and also Contract manufacturing for the big pharma companies.

We wish Satish Gharge and his team success…
