If you travel to Middle East and are passing through Egypt and ask for Pumps Diesel Gensets or engines, the only name comes up is Kirloskars, it is similar to XEROX means to photo copier machines. Here in Egypt pumps and Gensets means Kirloskars.

The Kirloskar’s beginning as entrepreneurs in the pre-independence era was with a small startup in Belgaum, but its visionary Shri Laxmanrao Kirloskar had dreamt to accomplish, unfortunately the first plant of manufacturing ploughs designed by Shri Laxmanrao Kirloskar was shunted out by Belgaum Municipality.

Shri Laxmanrao Kirloskar moved to Aundh near Sangli and named Kirlosakrwadi. He was awarded this land by Maharaja of Sangli. The Kirloskar’s began their industrial journey from here. Anyway as a mark of remembrance and respect the busy urban road from Dharmveer Sambhaji Chowk to Hutatma Chowk is named after Shri Laxmanrao Kirloskar as Kirloskar Road. It was opposite the Vangmay Charcha Mandal that the Kirloskar had their Cycle shop.

The Kirloskars brand grew leaps and bounds till then from IT automobiles to machinery and textiles, they have sizable presence in global market.

Kirloskar’s are now returning to Belgaum district with Indo Japanese joint venture Kirloskars Toyoda Textile Machinery (KTTM) has received clearance from the Karnataka Government to set up a Rs 3,847 crore factory in Kittur in Belgaum district. The company will set up an engine and a textile machinery unit which will generate over 1,200 jobs there. KTTM was among the 23 projects cleared by the state high-level clearance committee (SHLCC) on Friday. The total investment involved is over Rs 16,000 crore and it will create nearly 4 lakh jobs.KTTM LOGO

The Kirloskar’s are welcome, but for sure Belguamites must not be left dumbstruck since the government of Karnataka will realize this plant no sooner, since many big names are willing to be in Belgaum such as Zuari but the plant not yet have taken shape, Quest venture have got the competitor form the government itself with opening Aerospace SEZ in Devanhalli Bangalore, be it whatever this dream must realize the auto ancillaries and foundry basket of Auto industry should soon see an automobile plant in Belgaum.

  2. I think they are coming to Kittur due to proximity of Kittur to Dharwad / Belur industrial area… Though kittur is technically is Bgm, it is advantage to Dharwad / Belur industrial area… I dont understand how this will help attracting industries to Bgm.. all the ppl who work there will probably end up staying in dwd and helping its economy 🙁

Proximty of Kittur to Dharwad is fine but Belguam is getting its lagecy back is more important, this may follow further fueled growth to Industires in Belgaum, problem is Belgaum needs some brands, we havnt got any from previous governments, on economy part the company registered under district will contribute taxes to its district legeslative and administrative limts…wait for Govt Power plant near Hidkal and Zuari lot more will be there follow…
