Will Belagavi, one of the cities that included in the ambitious Smart Cities project of union government, make it into the list of 20 cities to be selected in first phase?
Union Minister for Urban Development, Venkaiah Naidu that the list of the 20 smart cities which is to be developed as the first smart cities of India will be released on January 26.
According to the news reports, the Urban Development Ministry has successfully completed the first and second selection process of smart cities in the stipulated time duration. In the first year 2016, only 20 cities would be selected, while the next two years will see the inclusion of 40 and 38 cities.
The stakes are high as each selected city will get Rs 200 crore every year for the next five years. Rs 100 crore will be given by the Centre per year while the remaining will come from contribution by the concerned state. In all, each city will get Rs 1,000 crore in next five years for the metamorphosis.
So Can Belagavi make it into the List?
On some grounds Belagavi can gain higher marks such as 24×7 water supply, underground cabling and rejuvenating of public wells for drinking.
